Warm up time is over, it’s time to get serious.
That’s the attitude being taken by youth wrestlers from the LocalNews1 coverage area who have spent the past two weekends honing their craft on the tournament scene. Dozens of those grapplers brought home hardware, with a talented few nailing down championships.
Wrestling teams from Waynesboro, Greencastle, Chambersburg and Fairfield were all represented at tourneys across the region, with a bulk of the competitors traveling to Biglerville last weekend for two tournaments in two days: The Biglerville Novice Tournament on Saturday, and the Season’s Beatings tourney on Sunday.
The Novice tourney, geared toward the wrestlers who are new to the sport, featured area champions in Waynesboro’s Luke Swope (7U), Isaac Fann (9U), and Chet Mummert (11U), and Greencastle’s Jude Burns (7U) and Grayson Ferraiuolo (9U). The Season’s Beatings tourney, catered toward veteran grapplers, was highlighted by titles from Waynesboro’s Keyzlin Hollimon (8U, 75 pounds), Ace Beltz (10U, 65), and Eli Hind (12U, 70), and Greencastle’s Ethan Allen (12U, 125).
The girls-only Big Spring Junior High Tournament included a couple of Chambersburg champs — Piper Jones (130) and Mirrah Harabaugh (165) — while Fairfield’s Wyatt Sager secured a title at the Red Lion Little Lions Novice Tournament.
Finally, Chambersburg ventured out to the Cocalico Junior High Tournament and returned to Franklin County with seven champions: Mason McClung (115 B JV), Landon Enders (122 B JV), Nathan Chambers (145), Yoltzin Tovar (155 A JV), Cameron Powell (155 B JV), Yaziel Valenin (170 A JV), and Deakon Snavely (210).
