Waynesboro boys, girls swimmers top Big Spring

NEWVILLE – The Waynesboro Area Senior High School boys’ and girls’ varsity swim teams racked up many first-place finishes. They added some seconds and thirds as well, and the result was the Indians won 107-77 against Big Spring on Tuesday, Dec. 9. The Maidens defeated the Lady Bubblers 125-55 in a Mid-Penn Colonial Division meet.

JB Bonner, Will Yost, and Aiden Hess each won two events and swam in a pair of relays during the 30-point dual win. Bonner was on the winning 200-yard medley relay and the 200 freestyle relay, also victories. Yost and Hess competed in the 200-medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay.

Hess won the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:20.58. He won the 100 backstroke in 1:00.54.

Bonner won the 50 freestyle (23.15) and the 500 freestyle (5:19.78). Yost was victorious in the 1090 butterfly (1:05.28) and the 100 breaststroke (1:10.71.2).

Andrew Bryan won the 2090 freestyle (2:05.49), and Cello Dimino captured the top spot in the 100 freestyle (54.65 seconds).

On the girls’ side, Waynesboro nabbed eight first places, including all three relays. Mady Barker, Lili Moreno, Rylie Tritle and Ruth Phillips got things started with a win in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 2:00.24.

The Maidens won the next three events, beginning with the 200 freestyle as Barker finished first ahead of teammate Addi Callaway (2:03.81).

Eve Phillips won the 200 individual medley in 2:20.84, and Ruth Phillips took first in the 50 freestyle (25.52).

Eve Phillips notched first in the 100 freestyle in 53.18 seconds. Tritle won the 100 butterfly.

Waynesboro will compete at the Waynesboro Area YMCA next Wednesday at 4 p.m. against Susquehanna Township
