Tournament of the Week: MyHouse Trojan Wars set to bring top-tier wrestling to Chambersburg

Medals, certificates, and trophies are cool, but do you know what’s a real conversation-starter: A battle-ready trojan helmet.

Nearly 50 teams will descend upon CASHS Field House to compete for the coveted top prize at this weekend’s 10th MyHouse Trojan Wars, hosted by the Chambersburg wrestling program. Two tournaments — at the high school and junior high levels — will be held across 12 mats.

Chambersburg, Greencastle-Antrim, and Fairfield are slated to be among the squads in attendance for this season’s event, which we’ve selected as our Tournament of the Week. Nearly 500 grapplers in total will be competing for championships, and helmets, in 13 different weight classes.

In the weeks and months to come throughout the high school sports season, we plan on spotlighting multiple teams and sports with our Game of the Week. Any big upcoming contests we should know about? Send suggestions to Andy Sandrik via email at big_andy76@yahoo.com.

10th My House Trojan Wars

Start time: Wrestling through the quarterfinal round will go down on Saturday at 10 a.m. The semifinal round will begin on Sunday at 11 a.m., with the Parade of Champions slated for 6 p.m.

Last year: Bald Eagle blasted off for the team title with 181.5 points to top the field of 51 squads, with Conwell Egan (156) and St. Christopher’s (152) rounding out the podium.

Meet the Trojans: Chambersburg will be aiming to improve upon last season’s 13th-place finish in the team standings with the assistance of returning placewinner Zach Sherman (6th at 121) … Sherman, the No. 7-seed at 127 pounds, is off to a 6-3 start this season with two falls … The Trojans have a number of potent grapplers we could see this weekend, including Issac Brambley (107, 5-3, 2 falls), Cody Seabolt (114, 4-4, 2 falls), Ashton Romberger (139, 5-3, 4 falls), Justin Deneen (145, 3-5, 1 fall), Logan Mickey (152-160, 6-3, 3 falls), Isaiah Tasker (172, 5-2, 1 fall), Jaccob Stoner (189-215, 6-2, 2 falls), Omar Hanchey (215, 2-3, 1 fall), and Frank Barrientos (285, 9-2, 6 falls) … Chambersburg has crowned nine champions at the Trojan Wars, with the most recent being Zach Evans (215) in 2022.

Meet the Knights: Fairfield will be making its first appearance at the Trojan Wars since 2018, when the Knights finished 45th as a team … Fairfield is led by two-time district qualifier Lincoln Kearchner, who enters this weekend with a 5-4 record at 285 pounds, including five falls … We could see a number of other Knights wrestlers in action at the Trojan Wars, including Riley Stoner (121-127, 2-4, 1 fall), John Perez (127-133, 0-4), Gavin Cramer (145, 0-5), Heath Cramer (152, 1-5, 1 fall), Jeremiah Harbaugh (152, 0-2), and Nathan Anders (160-172, 3-4, 3 falls) … Fairfield is coached by Jeffrey Hickock.
