Richard W. (Rick) Estep of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on August 16, 2025, after a lengthy illness surrounded by his loving family. Born April 5, 1949, in Huntingdon, PA, he was the son of the late Robert E. Estep, Sr. and Urcille A. (Hess) Estep. Rick graduated from James Buchanan High School in 1967 and was employed by the American Can Company. He enlisted in the United States Army on July 22, 1968, serving in Vietnam from May 10, 1969, to April 11, 1970, before being honorably discharged on July 22, 1971. After his career in the military, he was employed at Letterkenny Army Depot, retiring from DESCOM in 1994. Rick enjoyed participating in several sports in his younger years, including community soccer for the Saint Thomas Saints, baseball for the Chambersburg Maroons, as well as many community softball teams. After his early retirement, Rick worked in construction before obtaining his CDL license, becoming a CDL instructor. He then began driving for Martin’s Famous Potato Rolls and Bread and later driving for Mercersburg Academy. He also drove high school athletic bus trips for both Friese Bus Transportation and Tom Gift LLC. Rick also enjoyed driving his 1964 Oldsmobile, playing golf, and traveling with his wife. Rick was member of Amvets Post 224 and a lifetime member of the VFW Post 1599. Rick is survived by his wife of 5 years, Connie (Bard Eiker) Estep, who he married on January 24, 2020, his daughter: Bobbi J. Washabaugh, (Bill) of Chambersburg,step-sons: Eric Eiker, (Linda) of Chambersburg; Alan Eiker, (Jennifer) of Michigan; four grandchildren: Corey Hill (Lauren) of Mercersburg; Tucker Hill (Gretchen) of Mercersburg; Mckensi Washabaugh and Spencer Washabaugh of Florida; grandchildren: Brylee, Hutson, Brynnsyn and Hade Hill of Mercersburg; step-grandsons: Jesse Wenrick (Katrina); Tucker, Skyler, Brody Eiker of Chambersburg and Kayden Eiker, of Michigan; step-great grandson: Bowen Wenrick of Chambersburg; four siblings: Jim Estep, Chambersburg; Susan Barnes, (Denny) of Chambersburg; and Todd Estep, (Carole) of Mercersburg, PA; Erika Kaulk-Schwerzel, (Dieter) of Germany; sisters-in-law, Kay Estep, Donna Harrison, Chambersburg; brother-in-law, Dennis Bard, (Georgie) of Indiana; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Rick was preceded in death by his son, Jason R. and daughter, Hannah C. Estep and his brother, Robert E. Estep, Jr. A Visitation will be held at LifePoint Church, 339 Lincoln Way East, Chambersburg, on Friday, August 22, from 3-4:45 p.m., with a service beginning at 5 p.m. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mercy House, 730 Norland Avenue, Chambersburg, PA 17201, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
