Dennis Wayne Hutzel, 68, of Falling Waters, W.Va., died Thursday, Aug. 12, 2021, at his home.
Born June 29, 1953, in Hagerstown, he was the son of Betty Jane Reese Hutzel and the late Austin Woodrow Hutzel.
He was a 1971 graduate of South Hagerstown High School.
He was employed by the Maryland Department of Corrections at M.C.I. in Hagerstown for 26 years.
He was a member of Marlowe (W.Va.) Assembly of God.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 41 years, Charlotte D. Willard Hutzel; one daughter, Beth A. Walling and her husband, George; one son, Shane C. Hutzel; two grandchildren, Lane and Luke; three brothers, Richard L. Hutzel and his wife, Gloria, Ronnie W. Hutzel and his wife, Lisa, and Randy C. Hutzel and his wife, Tamara; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one son, Michael Wayne Hutzel; and one sister, Cathy Ann Hutzel.
Dennis loved his family more than anything.
He was a huge sports’ fan. He coached the Williamsport Vikings football team and his daughter’s basketball teams.
The funeral service will be Wednesday, Aug. 18, at 10 a.m. at Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 40 E. Antietam St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Scott L. Duffey will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, Aug. 17, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
