David Leo O’Brien, 64, of Chambersburg, passed away at home, Saturday February 1, 2025. He was born October 3, 1960 to the late Nellie (McElwee) and Thomas O’Brien in Bradford, PA.

He was a graduate of Smethport High School in 1978 and later went on to complete his Associate of Petroleum Engineering Technology Science and then his Bachelor of Earth and Environmental Science both at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford in 1983. He was employed by the U.S. Geological Survey in New Cumberland, PA as a Hydrologic Technician. David was a former member of both Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Chambersburg, PA as well as St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church in Smethport, PA. David was also a member of the Frontier Gun Club, National Rifle Association, and a former member of the Knights of Columbus. David’s bright spirit and playful nature filled every room he entered. He found joy in wrestling in his high school years. He loved the outdoors and hunting with his nephews. Music was another love of his. He enjoyed spending time with family and their late family dog, Harvey. He had a big heart. He enjoyed people watching and socializing with anyone he met. He was a loving husband, father, brother, and friend. He will be missed so much.

He is survived by his wife Sherry (Blair) O’Brien of Chambersburg, PA whom he married on October 21, 1995, his daughters Kelly R. O’Brien of Charlottesville, VA and Deanna R. O’Brien of Chambersburg, PA; his sister Peg Burdick of Smethport, PA; his brother Mick O’Brien (Cathy) of Smethport, PA; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two sisters Kathleen O’Brien and Mary DeBross, and Stepfather Neil Mangold.

His memorial service will be held on Friday February 7, 2025, at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, with Deacon Richard Ramsey officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Friday from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm. Condolences and memories may be shared at geiselfuneralhome.com
