The Christmas holiday break is a chance for sports teams to relax, recharge the batteries and look ahead to the New Year.
But for other squads, the break is an opportunity to get ahead.
Chambersburg’s wrestling squad did just that while hosting the Trojan Wars last weekend. The tournament, which featured 47 teams, saw the Trojans land a fourth-place finish while sending three of their grapplers to the awards stand: Zach Sherman (3rd at 127), Frank Barrientos (5th at 285), and Cody Seabolt (7th at 114). Another area wrestling team, Smithsburg, had three podium finishers at the Jeff Yingling Memorial Tournament: Kaden Dietrich (2nd at 126), Brock Orr (2nd at 215), and Logan Crutchfield (3rd at 138).
In boys basketball, North Hagerstown lost its first game of the season last week, while South Hagerstown gained some momentum for 2025 by winning its home tournament: The Rebel Holiday Classic.
Finally, Chambersburg showcased its pool talents at the Cumberland Valley Holiday Invite, with Cristian Pong (100 butterfly), Amir Tasker (200 freestyle), and Alex Kaczmark (500 freestyle) all winning their respective races.
Below is a sport-by-sport look at how teams in the Local.News coverage area performed last week:
