Frostburg State University Earns 13th Consecutive Military Friendly® School Designation

Share

Frostburg State University has once again received the Military Friendly® School designation marking the 13th straight year earning this honor. “Congratulations to our Veterans Services staff,” said FSU president, Dr. Ronald Nowaczyk. “This continues to be an important recognition for FSU.”

The Military Friendly® Schools list honors colleges, universities and trade schools across the country that go above and beyond to embrace America’s military service members, veterans and spouses as students and ensure their success on campus.

Institutions earning the Military Friendly® School designation were evaluated using both public data sources and responses from a proprietary survey. More than 1,800 schools participated in the 2024-2025 survey, and FSU was among 537 earning the Military Friendly® appointment for going above the standard.

“FSU has worked very hard to be military-friendly and serving students who served,” said Clarissa Lang, FSU Director of Veterans Services. “Our students have the support they need by having their own veterans center on campus where they can study, meet with other students, receive counseling services and so much more. We are proud of our veteran community and will continue improving our services to help them.”

Methodology, criteria and weightings were determined by Viqtory, which serves military personnel and their spouses transitioning into civilian life, with input from the Military Friendly® Advisory Council of independent leaders in higher education. Final ratings were determined by combining the institution’s ability to meet thresholds for retention, graduation, job placement, loan repayment, persistence, and loan default rates for all students and specifically, for student veterans.

“Military Friendly® is committed to transparency and providing consistent data-driven standards in our designation process,” said Kayla Lopez, National Director of Military Partnerships, Military Friendly®. “Our standards provide a benchmark that promotes positive outcomes and support services that better the educational landscape and provide opportunity for the Military community. This creates a competitive atmosphere that encourages institutions to evolve and invest in their programs consistently.” Lopez continued, “Schools who achieve awards designation show true commitment in their efforts, going over and above that standard.”

The 2024-2025 Military Friendly® Schools list will be published in the May and October issues of G.I. Jobs magazine and can be found at www.militaryfriendly.com.

FSU is home to a Veterans Center that proudly welcomes student veterans and dependents of veterans and ensures that they receive the academic benefits, resources and representation that they have earned. Additionally, members of the Student Veterans Association often perform community and alumni outreach activities through fundraisers and programs.

Frostburg State is also home to a chapter of SALUTE, the first national higher education honor society for student veterans and military service members. SALUTE members are recognized at ceremonies biannually.
