Mr. Raymond S. Rowland, Sr., 90, of Waynesboro, passed away Sunday, January 19, 2025 in Heartfield Assisted Living, Frederick, MD.
Born April 3, 1934 in Beartown, PA, he was the son of the late Jacob and Mabel (Flenner) Rowland.
He and his wife, the late Mrs. Rose Lucille “Lucy” (Wivell) Rowland, were married June 30, 1956. They were together for 59 years when she passed away January 25, 2016.
In his early life, Mr. Rowland worked in local orchards and later, in a local shoe factory for a number of years. Prior to his retirement in 1997, he was employed as a machinist at Landis Machine Co., Waynesboro. Following retirement, he worked part-time as a farm hand on the Rodger Kennedy Farm in Waynesboro.
Mr. Rowland was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Rouzerville and National AARP.
He enjoyed hunting and working any kind of odd jobs. For many years, he helped his son at the auction house and when his boys were younger, he volunteered his time as a coach with Waynesboro Little League. He also enjoyed racing and restoring his 1956 Ford truck.
Mr. Rowland is survived by two sons, Raymond S. Rowland, Jr. of Dayton, MT and Larry E. Rowland of Rouzerville; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; one brother, Kenneth Rowland of Waynesboro; and a number of nieces and nephews as well as a host of extended family and friends.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by daughter, Brenda J. Nenninger. His four sisters, Betty Green, Geneva Shockey, Ruby Crilley and Enina Emory; and two brothers, Delbert Rowland and Emmert Rowland.
Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, January 23, 2025 in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro with Pastor Julie Brigham officiating. Burial will follow in Harbaugh Church Cemetery, Rouzerville.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, Thursday afternoon, in the funeral home.
