CHAMBERSBURG – Due to the generosity of area residents, Habitat for Humanity’s fall used book sale saw an increase in activity and raised $26,000. The funds will be used to purchase building materials for Habitat houses under construction in Chambersburg and Waynesboro.

BCM Payroll Services sponsored the event, and Patriot Federal Credit Union made their branch locations available for donations. The community contributed more than 40,000 items for the sale including books, puzzles, games and music. St. John’s UCC hosted the sale by providing space and volunteers. Additionally, Friends of Legal Services made many supplies, sorting space and volunteers available to support the Habitat book sale.

Mark Story, director of advancement, notes, “Our community is better when we work together. We especially thank the volunteers at St. John’s UCC for hosting the sale and Friends of Legal Services leadership for working closely with us to make this a true community-benefiting event.” Leftover items from the sale were donated to other area nonprofit organizations and then sold in bulk. The next sale will take place Oct. 24-26, 2025.
