Mary Katheryn Smith, 88, passed away on Monday, November 18, 2024, at Paramount Senior Living, Chambersburg, Pa. She was born January 7, 1936, in Bedford, PA, the daughter of the late Pearl and Frank Jay. Mary graduated from Everett High School in 1955. John S. and Mary Katheryn married in Flintstone, MD, on October 22, 1955. They lived in Artemas, PA, previously to moving to St. Thomas, PA, in 1965. Mary worked and retired from the former Stanley Company in Chambersburg. Mary enjoyed camping and square dancing. She was a 50-year member of Eastern Star and a 50-year member of Amaranth. For many years Mary and John volunteered to cook at their church, St. Thomas United Methodist Church, and the St. Thomas Fire Company, and the St. Thomas Ruritan Club. Mary is survived by her son, Michael (Rosemary) Smith. Grandchildren: Matthew Smith, Tanya Chmilewski (Jason), Jamie Baumgardner (Dane), Amanda Smith. Great Grandchildren: Sabella Smith, Cameron Wherley, Brooklyn Hodges, Simon Smith, Addilyn Hodges, Gavin Chmilewski, and Harper Baumgardner; and one brother Alan Jay. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband John S. Smith and son Randy A. Smith; also, siblings Leo Jay, Adna Assel, and Wanda Shipley. The family will receive friends on Monday, November 25, from 6-8 p.m. at Sellers Funeral Home Chambersburg, PA. Martha Custis Chapter #342, Order of the Eastern Star will provide honors starting at 7:30 p.m. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, November 26, at 12:00 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery, 1751 Crooked Run Rd, Artemas, PA, 17211, with Pastor Scott Sassaman officiating.
