Magic on a Budget: Depression Era Soups Cooking Demo

Share

WAYNESBORO- The Waynesboro Historical Society is inviting the community to step back in time and discover the budget-friendly meals that kept people nourished during the challenging years of the Great Depression. On Sunday, May 19 from 1-3 p.m., the society will be hosting a “Magic on a Budget: Depression Era Soups Cooking Demo” at the Oller House.

During this unique event, attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the types of foods that were commonly consumed during the Great Depression. The economic hardship of that era forced many families to get creative with limited resources and inexpensive ingredients. Hearty soups and stews became staple meals, providing sustenance and comfort.

The Waynesboro Historical Society will be leading a cooking demonstration, allowing participants to see firsthand how these Depression-era dishes were prepared. Attendees will have the chance to taste the final product and discover ways to adapt these classic recipes to better suit modern tastes and dietary needs.

Space is limited for this free event, so interested individuals are encouraged to RSVP as soon as possible. Donations are always appreciated to support the ongoing efforts of the Waynesboro Historical Society.
