Mr. Richard Leon “Dick” Hamby, 73, of Brunswick, died early Friday morning, September 23, 2011, at Kline Hospice House, Mount Airy.


He was the husband of Mrs. Patricia Rene’ Reed Hamby, his wife of 42 years.



Born November 9, 1937, in Hagerstown, he was a son of the late Harry LeRoy and Nellie Virginia Chorpenning Hamby.



Dick was a United States Army Veteran; and for a time, after serving our country, became a truck driver.


He retired as a plumber.


He originally owned and operated D&B Plumbing in Gaithersburg and later worked with several Montgomery County Plumbing Contactors including Roberson Plumbing of Dickerson and Poolesville Plumbing.



Dick was very loving father and grandfather.



He was involved with several Fraternal and Community organizations including the Forest Oak Lodge 123 Knight of Phythias, Gaithersburg, Loyal and Fraternal Order of the Moose, Brunswick Lodge 1582, and Redmen Chippewa Tribe 19, Frederick.



Surviving besides his wife are seven children, Veronica McGlumphy and Frankie Ornduff, both of Arkansas, Robert Hamby of Walkersville, and Eric Hamby, Dawn Ecker, Mandy Fuqua and Christopher Hamby, all of Brunswick; eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren; as well as siblings Joan Lord, Rhonda Moody, and William, Jay, Terry and John Hamby; and numerous nieces and nephews, and cousins.



Friends may call at the Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 40 East Antietam Street, Hagerstown, Thursday, September 29, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.


The funeral service will be Friday, September 30, 11:00 AM, at the funeral home.


The Rev. Randall S. Reid will officiate.


Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown.
