Mrs. Catherine Elizabeth Brown Bachtell, 94, of Hagerstown, died Saturday, May 25, 2013, at Ravenwood Lutheran Village, Hagerstown. She was the wife of the late James Ira Bachtell, her husband of 66 years who died on November 22, 2008.
Born June 15, 1918, in Martinsburg, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Amos Franklin, Sr., and Estella Bernice Dunham Brown. She was a graduate of Martinsburg High School.
Mrs. Bachtell was a member of Mount Vernon United Church of Christ, Keedysville; and was past Matron of the former Olive Branch # 34, Order of the Eastern Star, Keedysville, now Hagerstown Chapter # 89.
Surviving is her son, James B. Bachtell and wife Joan of Hagerstown; as well as step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.
Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Amos F. Brown, Jr.
The Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, Hagerstown, is handling the arrangements. There will not be visiting or viewing at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held Thursday, May 30, at 11:00 AM, at Rosedale Cemetery, 917 Cemetery Road, Martinsburg. The Rev. Dean P. Pryor will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Bachtell’s name to Hagerstown Chapter #89, OES, and sent in care of Nancy Newkirk, 1810 Meridian Drive, Hagerstown, Maryland 21742; or to Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Avenue, Hagerstown, Maryland 21742.
